Branding Package for VSDC
DesignHaus Creative Services is honored to be part of the team to build a new data initiative in Virginia for VSDC’s (Virginia SmallSat Data Consortium). VSDC is a multi-institutional collaborative effort led by Old Dominion University and Virginia Tech, supported by the Virginia Research Innovation Fund (VRIF). In concert with their partners and affiliates VSDC builds data solutions and initiatives that will grow Virginia’s economy and improve the lives of everyday Virginians.
Starting with the development of the VSDC logo and continuing with the formulation of the style guide and branding materials, it was a challenge and an adventure to build this new brand, and a rewarding experience to be a part of the project, and to work with the excellent team that we became. I am so proud of what we created. What an achievement!
The overall look and feel of the logo is modern and engaging. It represents the technology of the future. It also symbolizes the eternal exchange between problem owners, problem solvers, and data providers. The symbol depicts the interchange of knowledge and data among various user groups, and identifies the new platform as a premier source of ideas and solutions.
The symbol for infinity stands for something boundless or without limits. The new VSDC platform, including research and problem solving, has unlimited possibilities and opportunities.
The lines that create the infinity symbol represent the constant flow of data. The different colors symbolize the different usage: land (green), sea (blue), space (purple), commercial (red), and private (yellow).
The lines symbolize anything that is man-made and creative. Creativity is necessary to solve problems or to invent something new. The calligraphic strokes symbolize a human-scale creative approach, while also depicting something precise, such as the stroke drawn with a calligraphic feather pen. The combination of creativity and precision is essential for problem solving.
